Penannular shawl pins are an old fashioned Celtic style of brooch. They began as utilitarian fasteners in Ireland and Scotland in around the 700's. Penannular means a ring with a break in it. They are great, all-in-one brooch with a movable pin. No parts to lose! Plus, they're perfect on hand knit scarves and shawls!
This version of my brass shawl pin combines twisted wire with a hammered pin. A rich patina brings out all of the beutiful texture and gives it an aged look. It measures approximately 2" in diameter.

To maintain the beauty of your handmade jewelry I recommend not wearing it while exercising or showering. Excess sweat and chemicals can quickly tarnish your piece. Natural oxidation will occur over time on all Sterling Silver, Brass and Copper jewelry. Wearing them often is the best way to keep them looking good. Friction from everyday wear actually helps polish the metal. If tarnish occurs, your piece can be cleaned with a jewelry polishing cloth.
